Fuel for Fitness, Fuel for Life

Katie Gleason, MS, RDN, CDN

Food, as defined by Merriam Webster, is material consisting essentially of protein, carbohydrate, and fat used in the body of an organism to sustain growth, repair vital processes, and to furnish energy.

THIS. This is the kind of food you’ll find in the cafe at M/Body. Food to help you grow and stay strong, nourishment to repair fatigued muscles and bodies, and fuel to energize your day. This is the kind of food that empowers bodies and minds.

Our ingredients are local, fresh, seasonal, clean, and wholesome; lovingly prepared with your health and fitness – and your time – in mind.

As M/Body’s resident dietician, I’m proud and honored to share food of this caliber with you, and to give you the tools and team you need to make it a part of your daily life.

Every food choice at M/Body has been carefully considered, from post workout meals, daily juice offerings, and prepared grab-and-go dinners, to light snacks, hydrating fluids, and more.

Your nutrition team includes talented chefs and registered dietitians with decades of experience in helping Rochesterarians meet their goals. We are here to guide you in selecting your next meal, or help you jumpstart the new you with our intensive 90 Day Jumpstart program that includes menus, calculations, education sessions and fitness workouts.

Along the way, I can’t wait to share with you my favorite recipes, tips for healthy eating, and ways to embrace and enjoy nutritious food in the real world, right here on this blog.

While options at M/Body are many, the goal is always the same: to sustain growth, repair vital processes, and to furnish energy…not just for today but for always.

So stop in and enjoy your next bite with us, and we’ll help you get there.

Meet Me on the Mat

Mary Aman, Yoga Team Leader

“I wish I’d found yoga 20 years ago!” is the one thing I hear from my students more than anything else. But, what I love most about yoga is that whenever you choose to begin is the absolute right time for you.

After years of practicing and teaching, I continue to be drawn to the accessibility of yoga, and I’m proud of the environment we have created for you to begin or continue your practice.

When you walk through our door, your goals and intentions may differ from those around you – and that’s okay. You may be here to decrease stress and minimize distraction. Maybe you’re seeking increased flexibility. Or, maybe you’re craving a movement practice that complements your current athletic or rehab efforts.

And, there are plenty of folks who are drawn to yoga to balance their ongoing meditation discipline.

Maybe you’re here for all of these reasons – or none of them at all. And, chances are that once you’re here, you’ll continue to find new reasons to keep coming back to your mat again and again.

For this reason, we’ve spent months finding just the right combination of instructors whose personalities and talents will complement yours. And you’ll find classes as diverse as the students and instructors that surround you.

Because at the end of the day, our hope is that you’ll find a class and a teacher that will meet you where you are, and move you to where you want to be.

If you practice yoga regularly, we’d be honored to join you on your continued path.

If you’ve never tried yoga before, there’s no time like the present. And there’s no better place to start.

So, I invite you to come join me or one of our many other talented teachers on the mat and let the rest fall into place. Don’t have a mat? We’ll lend you one of ours. Want to chat with an instructor? We’re always here to listen and guide.

We’re just glad that you’ve made it here and I can’t wait to welcome you.

Be You, Inside and Outside of the Gym

Shannon Cunniffe, Retail Team Leader

If you’ve visited M/Body recently, or browsed our jam-packed class schedule, you’ve probably noticed by now that there’s A LOT going on here.

Lots of different classes, lots to do, and all types of fitness warriors from all walks of life coming and going each day. And, boy, do we like it that way.

We love the new faces and new challenges that greet us when we arrive to class, and we’re energized by the one-of-a-kind spirit each one of you brings when you walk through the door.

To me, that’s what makes M/Body such a rare and inspiring place to work out, recharge, and spend a small part of our busy days before we head back out to tackle our to-do lists.

Within the retail space at M/Body, my goal is to empower you to discover and embrace your own individual style so you’ll always feel like the best version of YOU – whether you’re going to, working out at, or coming from the gym.

And while we love you no matter what you wear, sometimes you just want to freshen up your fashion game and feel a bit more pulled together for whatever the day brings. For some that may mean mixing it up with an eye-catching print. For others it may mean a new favorite go-everywhere pullover that takes you from spin warm-up to school dropoff.

Whatever it is you’re looking for, we’re here to help you find it and make it easy to look as great on the outside as you feel on the inside.

In the coming months, I’ll let you in on the latest brands and pieces we just can’t stop talking about here at M/Body.

From time to time you’ll also hear from me about M/Barre – Rochester’s first and only certified ballet barre workout program. I’ll share more about this amazing workout that I’ve grown to love and now teach, and I’ll introduce you to our group of certified barre instructors who never cease to impress and inspire me.

But for now, stop in and see what we have in store for you.

Ready or Not, Here We Go!

Molly Flaherty, Owner

Hey, there!

Here’s something I’ve learned in 27 years of training: When you dare to fully-embrace your personal fitness and wellness goals, and take charge of your healthy lifestyle – on your own terms – some pretty amazing things can happen. You may surprise even yourself. I know this because I’ve watched countless people do just that.

It’s been my dream to create a space in Rochester where that’s possible for more people each day.

So for the past two years, I’ve eaten, slept, and breathed M/Body. It’s been my life. And it’s been a long time coming. Now, I couldn’t be more pumped to finally invite you inside to share it with me.

Why did I create M/Body? Because I couldn’t not do it.

Here’s how it started:

First, I scoured the city to find just the right spot. Then, I searched high and low to bring you the best group of instructors and experts I know. I’m in awe of their talent, and I know you will be too.

But I didn’t stop there.

Next, I partnered with some of the best people in Rochester to bring you cutting edge equipment, an inventive cafe menu, wholesome ingredients, and a beautiful space to spend a few minutes of your day.

Together, we continued to perfect every detail, making sure each piece of the whole that is M/Body was just what you needed it to be, and so much more.

Why? Because I want you to love M/Body as much as I do. Because it’s my belief that a vibrant and balanced lifestyle should be accessible to anyone who wants to work for it.

Thanks to my amazing team, we’re finally ready to unleash this potential on Rochester.

But this is only the beginning. The rest of the story is now up to you.

Because at the end of the day, it’s you who does all the hard work. I’m just here to help you make it count.

So bring your sneaks, your guts, maybe a towel, and always an open mind.

And let’s have some fun.

Get comfortable in your own skin. And everything underneath.

During the course of my life I’ve been called “too big” and “too scrawny”. But the real truth lies somewhere in between. Regardless of size, I always find the perfect balance when moving my body. It brings me joy. And now, I’m inviting you to move yours. In a way that provides you joy—at my place.

A lifelong athlete, marathon runner, triathlete and fun and adventure‐seeker, I’m bringing my 27 years of fitness experience to bear on the Rochester community with the opening of my own studio. It’s been a lifelong dream—hard fought, just the way I like it.

Like you, fitness is just one part of my life. That’s why I’ve combined spa, salon, nutrition, relaxation and athletic restorative services. It’s like nothing else in Rochester. Not just because of the services, but because of my staff.

I’ve handpicked a tribe of experts that I’ve watched, trained with and admired over the years. They blow me away. You’ll recognize the faces; I know they are some of your favorites as well. Together, we’ll drive your body past the inherent limitations you think it has. And then we will restore and nurture both the body and mind to the balanced and rejuvenated state it deserves and requires—all under one roof.

And now, the only thing missing—is you.

So, come as you are. I don’t care if you have this season’s monogrammed Lulus or crappy secondhand sneakers—everybody’s welcome. All that you need is a desire to take a chance, make a change and suffer through my corny jokes as I push you to your limits.

I might yell some choice words at you along the way—telling you to get your ass in gear and whatnot. But, as we both know—it’s not about what I say about you. It’s about what you think of yourself, isn’t it? I’m just giving you the space to figure it out.

Stop in and define yourself.
